Welcome

Scott House Bewick’s Lodge is the perfect location for your self-catering break. It has three double bedrooms for up to six guests. One of the bedrooms can be made into a twin room on request. Within the Lodge there is an open plan kitchen, living and dining room and each bedroom has ensuite facilities. The Lodge is located on the first floor of Sir Peter Scott's former home.

There is also private access to Scott’s viewing tower and garden, with free entry into Slimbridge Wetland Centre during opening hours. 

You have the option to make your stay extra special by adding on a luxury behind-the-scenes wildlife experience for your party to enjoy. Many of the experiences are fully accessible. 

 

At a Glance

 Level Access

  • The main entrance to the property has 1 step. There is no lift and no ramp.

  • The grounds of WWT Slimbridge have level access and hard-surfaced paths with tarmac on main routes (and compacted gravel on minor paths) and board walks over marshy areas.
  • Ramp access from our car park to admissions and then down to the centre and site. There is also a lift which would be suitable for smaller pushchairs and wheelchairs.
  • Our grounds are fully accessible with pushchairs, wheelchairs & mobility scooters. The majority of our hides are accessible with ramps and wide doorways. Most hides are not suitable for mobility scooters.

  • There is a mobile hearing induction loop in the admission foyer, Living Wetland Theatre and cinema.
  • We have a mobile induction loop available if needed for other areas of the centre.

  • The walls and the doors in Bewick’s Lodge have high colour contrast.
  • We have information in large print.

 General

  • There are 6 accessible toilets within the grounds and visitor centre.
  • Staff are available 24 hours a day.
  • Some staff have disability awareness training.

 Travel by public transport

  • You can get to Bewick's Lodge by bus and train.
  • Unfortunately there is no bus service directly to Slimbridge. The nearest services stop at the A38, leaving a walk through the village to reach us. The bus stop is 2.10 miles / 61.5 km from Bewick's Lodge.
  • The nearest train station is Cam and Dursley. The train station is 3.5 miles / 5.6 km from Bewick's Lodge.

 Travel by taxi

  • You can get a taxi with A1 taxis service by calling 07719 593389.
  • You can get a taxi with Apollo Taxis by calling 01453 823 344. The taxi company has a wheelchair accessible vehicle.
  • You can get a taxi with Dursley Taxis by calling 07475 313151. The taxi company has a wheelchair accessible vehicle.

 Parking

  • We have a car park. The parking is less than 50 metres from the main entrance. Parking is free.
  • There is a drop-off point at the main entrance. The drop-off point does not have a dropped kerb.
  • From the car park to the entrance, there is level access.
  • Parking for Bewick's Lodge is immediately outside the main entrance with one small step for the threshold.

Bedrooms

  • From the main entrance to the bedrooms, there are 14 steps. There is no lift and no ramp.
  • All bedrooms have windows.
  • Bedrooms have bedside lamps and spot lights.
  • Lights are LED. Some lights can be controlled independently.
  • All bedrooms are non-smoking.
  • We have non-allergic bedding.
  • All bedrooms have fitted carpets.
  • The bedrooms have level access from the main living area.
  • All 3 bedrooms are ensuite.
  • We have 2 bathrooms with a shower. In these bathrooms there is space in front of each toilet.
  • We have 1 bathroom with a bath and overhead shower. In this bathroom the direction of transfer onto the toilet is to the left.

  • We have an open plan kitchen.
  • From the main entrance to the kitchen, there are 14 steps. There is no lift and no ramp.
  • The work surface is available at a height between 650mm and 900mm.
  • The hob is available at a height between 650mm and 900mm.
  • The sink is available at a height between 650mm and 900mm.
  • The table and plates have high colour contrast.
  • A variety of crockery is available.

  • From the main entrance to the lounge, there are 14 steps. There is no lift and no ramp.


Public toilets

Public toilets in the main car park.

  • There is a public toilet for disabled visitors.
  • From the main entrance to Bewick’s Lodge, there is level access to the public accessible toilet in the main car park.
  • The route is 870mm wide, or more.
  • The toilet door is 870mm wide.
  • The direction of transfer onto the toilet is to the left.
  • There is 1200mm in front of the toilet. The toilet seat is 490mm high. The toilet has handrails.


Getting around outside

 Lady Scott's garden is available for visitors outside office hours.

  • There are double gates that allow access to the garden.
